Parrillo Body Fat (9 sites)

Designed specifically for athletes and bodybuilders. Most accurate for trained individuals with well-developed musculature.

Who should use this method?

  • Best for: Athletes, bodybuilders, people with 5+ years of consistent training. Note: may overestimate body fat by ~5% compared to DEXA
  • Why: Jackson-Pollock underestimates body fat in trained athletes — Parrillo corrects this
  • Important: Use this formula for tracking fat loss dynamics, not for determining absolute body fat level. Most reliable when body fat is below 15% for men and below 22% for women.
  • Formula: BF = 27 x (sum of 9 skinfolds mm) / body weight (kg)
  • Measure on the right side of the body
  • Grasp only skin and subcutaneous fat, not muscle
  • Take 2-3 measurements per site and use the average
  • Recommended: compare with Jackson-Pollock 7-site for reference
